Lamp and rod flow tube for Laser Pumping Cavity

Laser lamp and rod flow tubes are important components in water - cooled lamp - pumped lasers, mainly used for heat dissipation and optical filtering.
Cooling: They form a channel for high - velocity cool water to flow across the surfaces of the laser lamp and the laser rod, effectively taking away the heat generated during their operation to ensure the normal operation of the laser.
Optical filtering: They can absorb or block unwanted ultraviolet and other wavelengths of light. For example, they prevent ultraviolet light from causing solarization of the laser rod, which can change the color and reduce the efficiency of the rod, and also block wavelengths that are not in the pump band to avoid adding unnecessary heat to the rod.
Preventing "lateral depumping": Some flow tubes, especially those made of samarium - doped glass, can absorb the side - emitted energy of the rod, preventing back - reflection and reducing energy losses.

Materials of Lamp and rod flow tube
BOROFLOAT® 33 Lamp and rod flow tube(High-quality borosilicate glass, SCHOTT AG, Germany)
Features: Extremely low thermal expansion coefficient, strong thermal shock resistance (withstands 450°C long-term, rapid cooling at high temps); ultra-high transmittance in visible light, high transparency in near-infrared/ultraviolet (no distortion); refractive index 1.47133 at 589.3nm, Abbe number 65.41.
Advantages: Low cost (most commonly used); blocks UV below 300nm, good transmittance in Nd:YAG pump bands.
Cerium-doped quartz Lamp and rod flow tube
Features: Higher mechanical robustness and thermal crack resistance than Pyrex; blocks UV below ~380nm, fluoresces in Nd:YAG absorption bands (improves laser efficiency to some extent).
Samarium-doped glass Lamp and rod flow tube
Features: Effective optical filter/fluorescent material; blocks all UV below 400nm and 1064nm wavelength.
Limitation: High cost, mainly used in military and scientific fields.
Synthetic Fused Silica Lamp and rod flow tube(China JGS1 Quartz Glass)
Positioning: Representative synthetic fused silica in China ("synthetic quartz glass"), distinct from natural quartz glass (from natural quartz ore).
Raw Material & Process: Made from high-purity silicon compounds (e.g., silicon tetrachloride) via vapor phase oxidation/deposition; extremely low impurities (metal ions, hydroxyl groups).

Corning HPFS® 7980 Fused Silica Glass Lamp and rod flow tube
Positioning: Ultra-high-purity synthetic fused silica, designed for high-end precision optical applications.
Optical: High transparency from deep UV (down to 193nm) to near-infrared; excellent optical uniformity, minimal refractive index variation (minimizes light scattering/distortion);
Impurities: Metal ions (Na, K, Fe, etc.) controlled at ppb level, ultra-low OH⁻ content (avoids light signal absorption/interference, suitable for high-precision laser & lithography);
Thermal: Ultra-low thermal expansion coefficient (~5.5×10⁻⁷/°C), strong thermal shock resistance; stable size/optical performance over wide temp range; 1050°C long-term use, 1200°C short-term tolerance.

Structure and size: The lamp and rod flow tubes are generally in the shape of a cylinder. The outer diameter is usually 8mm - 30mm, the wall thickness is 1mm - 5mm, and the length is 20mm - 150mm. The specific size will be determined according to the design requirements of different laser systems.
